A little trivia. The banner picture at the top of this blog is from the start of the 2006 Thomas Wolfe 8k.
The 33rd running of a classic 8k, winding through downtown Asheville, into the Montford neighborhood and through Riverside Cemetery. The race starts on Broadway in front of the Mellow Mushroom and finishes at the Thomas Wolfe Visitor Center on Market Street. Always a nice turnout — just short of 300 runners each of the last two years. I first ran this in 2006 when there were only 176 runners and I managed to finish third in my age group. I’m looking forward to this.

I have been reading your blog now for quite some time and really like it. I don’t know if it’s your style or not , but do you think you could perhaps do a post on the oil spill in the gulf?
I love your thoughts and opinions, and would love to see your commentary on this sad tragedy.
It is quite sad.

And it’s looking like we’ll be getting a mite damp, if the weather holds as predicted…
I am helping out on this one. Start wagering now… will I actually make it downtown by 6:30 tomorrow morning? Yikes! I’m excited. This is one of Asheville’s premier races.
I’m doing this one too-for the 5th time. Great AVL race, a fun tour of the town, and unique prizes for the fast runners reaching different points on the course first (not that I’ve ever seen them do so 🙂
It has the feel of the first real Fall race, even if the temperatures don’t always reflect it!
