Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon, Third and Final Practice Run, August 22, 2009
|
Here is an interactive version of the course from USA Track & Field.
NOTE: run time weather – 64 degrees and 30 percent chance of a shower.
NOTE: I created this without knowing the exact start/finish locations on O’Henry so it may appear to be less than it actually is — 13.1 miles.

I have a really good feel for this course and I’m looking forward to September, 12, 2009. I have run every part of this course three times. First, I split the course into three sections and ran each one individually. Then I did two complete practice runs from start to finish with other runners. It is a great course. The race director — Greg Duff — did a great job modifying the course to minimize motor traffic conflicts. The result is a more varied course with intersting twists and turns that help keep the half-marathon runners interested.
I plan to do my final complete run of the course this coming Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 7:30 AM. I’ll be there a little early if any runners have questions about the course — I’ll have course maps, in case runners get separated.
If you think you might participate, please post a comment. No problem if you change your mind, it’s just helpful to know how many might come before we head out.
Yeah, but it keeps me out of trouble-plus, it’s my excuse for how badly I’ll do at the race!! lol.
Enjoy your practice run, and pound the pace!
Bob G. — have fun. That’s a lotta running in one day!
Dennis,
I would like to run with you. Where are you meeting?
Paul
At the Citizen-Times building. It’s on the O’Henry Street side of the Grove Arcade. We’ll go out at about 7:30, maybe a few minutes later. Look forward to it.
Gotta bail…Duncan’s doing 20, I’m doing 15, Greg’s doing 13-all at Lake summit in the a.m. That way we’re avoiding the hills (not much of a strategy for the ACT 1/2, huh?) and will leave you fast guys to do your pace in the training run up there. Enjoy, Dennis!
ps-and then it’s off to the Hot August 5k!!
I’m trying to convince Greg W. to come with, and he’s got a hinky calf muscle, so we’ll grab a map and leave you fast guys alone!
What pace will you be running?
It depends on who comes out to run. My past two practice runs have been based upon the pace of others. My first was a 9:15 pace and my second about a 10:00 pace.
Ok. I’ll try to be there.
Great. Hope to see you.
“If runners get separated…” Nice way of saying “Get left behind…” But that’s ok, I appreciate you bringing a map-if I show, I’ll need one!! lol.
