The Bele Chere 5k, July 25th 2009 at 8:00 AM

The Bele Chere race is one of the oldest races in Western North Carolina and the 2009 race is its 30th running.  It’s grown a great deal over the nine years I’ve been in Asheville and last year it attracted 1,282 runners.  This year the projection is 1,400.

The course is moderate, with some uphill to start (Charlotte Street and Beaumont) and after that the ups and downs are mild.  Once you get up to College and Biltmore put the afterburners on — it’s all really downhill from there.

Race Simulation/Practice Run July 18, 2009, 8:00 AM

The Beginners Running Program (BRP) is planning a practice run of the Bele Chere 5k course on July 18th at 8 AM.  It’s a great way to get psyched up for the race, running the actual course.  I’m impressed that the group will also have water stops and a timing clock at the finish to create a genuine race-day simulation.  This is not just helpful for beginners — it’s helpful for all runners.  And all runners are welcome.  It starts at McCormick field at 8:00 AM on Saturday, July 18th, 2009.
