Asheville North Carolina Chamber Challenge 5k, June 5 2009 Dennis Duffy | June 2, 2009 | General | 4 Comments Chamber Challenge Course I’m planning on doing this on Friday afternoon at 4:30. It’s mostly four-person teams but it looks like fun, had a great turnout last year (about 600 runners). Nice Montford course that should be mix of shade and sun. There are a lot of trees on Courtland, which should keep the runners cool and make the climb a little easier. Of all the 5Ks I’ve run, I think the Falafel is most difficult, hillwise. duffyd June 5, 2009 Reply Yes, that Falafel race is a long pull up Country Club and then up and beyond the rose garden. It’s tough. Ken June 4, 2009 Reply Looks like fun. Some of it overlies the Super Hero 5K course, which also goes N on Pearson (much of which is a very slight downhill) and S on Montford (much of which is a slight uphill). I know there are a lot of novice runners in this race. I hope they don’t overdo it in the heat. duffyd June 4, 2009 Reply The biggest uphill is where Hill Street meets Courtland. And that’s about a 4/10 of a mile stretch to Pearson. The start is a fast downhill on Hill Street (just like the start of the Hot Chocolate 10k, but longer). Pearson is moderate. Montford is slightly uphill near the end. The good news is that the weather is only supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow afternoon and a lot of this course is slightly shady.
