Running the Coon Dog Day 5k – Saluda, North Carolina, July 7, 2007
|It was a great day and Saluda is a fun town. The race atmosphere can’t be beat so I suggest this race to anyone who likes a festive atmosphere. Parking was a challenge. But the Saluda folks organize remote parking and lots of shuttle buses.
They had more than 450 runners this year. This race is really becoming big. It’s a challenging start with a fair amount of uphill and a couple of other long uphill pulls, including one just before the finish. I was feeling good and able to keep a consistent pace which allowed me to pass a lot of runners in the last mile and have a strong sprint finish down Main Street for a 22:23 finish — number 61 out of 452 runners.
