Bethel Half Marathon – October 8, 2005

The Bethel Half Marathon is a relatively small race (less than 150 runners in 2005) but a nice scenic course.  Bethel is south of Canton, NC and just east of Waynesville, NC.  The race starts and ends at <ST1Bethel </ST1<ST1Middle School</ST1.

There is a 5k paired with the half marathon.  Both races start together and co-exist for about the first two miles.  Then the 5k peels off and heads for the finish while the half marathon heads out into the country.

It’s a mostly flat-ish course with the most substantial hill happening in the first half of the run just after the separation from the 5k.

My goal for this one was simply to be under 2 hours.  I barely made it with a time of 1:59:20.

They serve some great potato soup at the school after the race.  It’s a great replenishment after a long run.
